CloudCenter 4.8 has reached End of Life (EOL) as of November 14, 2018. See End of Support Notices for additional context.

Benchmark Applications

The Benchmark feature actively deploys an application profile across multiple cloud providers or cloud regions from a single cloud provider and produces a report that helps customers optimize cost and performance.

On the cloud, price and performance are inextricably linked. Knowing one without the other is of little use given inherent trade offs and changing cloud landscape.

Benchmark Process

The CloudCenter platform automates the benchmark tasks for the price, performance, and price-performance index for each application, across any cloud, instance type or provider, so you can pick your target before you migrate.

The Schedule Benchmark task allows you to run a benchmark for an application at a scheduled time. See Application Tasks > Schedule Benchmarks for additional context.

Cloud Nuances -- VMware and OpenStack

When running benchmarks for legacy applications on VMware or OpenStack clouds, you must wait till the data is loaded. If you enter any information before the data is loaded then the Submit button is disabled.

Load Generator

When you run a benchmark on a web application, you also see an additional Load Generator tier to generate the benchmark load.

To load instance types for this Load Generator tier, add image mapping for the CentOS 6.x image.

When you select the Benchmark option for a web application, you see the instance type combinations and other benchmark settings that you can select. In addition to the tiers configured for this application, you also see an extra section titled Load Generator. Select instance type and other settings for this tier just like any other application tier.

Storage as a Service

Users can use Storage as a Service to write output files when you benchmark applications or run job-based applications.
